Travel Notes

Travel Notes:

  • Most guests will arrive at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), located about 40–60 minutes from Taipei. We recommend flying with China Airlines or EVA Air, as both offer comfortable and reliable routes from Canada to Taiwan. If you’d like assistance arranging flights, please feel free to reach out directly to Luke and Rebecca — we’d be happy to connect you with a trusted travel agent who can help coordinate your trip.

  • From the Airport, taxis, Ubers, and the Airport MRT make it easy to reach both Taipei and Tamsui.

Once you’re settled, grab an EasyCard from any MRT station or convenience store — it works for the subway, buses, and even some shops, making it the simplest way to explore the city and beyond.

  • You can pick up a physical SIM card or activate an eSIM directly at the airport. Major carriers like Chunghwa, Taiwan Mobile, and FarEasTone all offer convenient tourist plans with unlimited data for 5–30 days.

  • Taiwan uses the New Taiwan Dollar (NT$). Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and major stores, but smaller shops and night markets are usually cash-only. ATMs are easy to find, and currency exchange is available at the airport.

Additionally, tipping is not customary in Taiwan. Most restaurants and hotels automatically include a 10% service charge, so there’s no need to leave extra.

  • September in Taiwan is warm and humid, with daytime highs around 30°C. Light, breathable clothing is best, but bring an umbrella or light rain jacket — quick showers are common, especially in the afternoons.

  • Tap water is generally safe for brushing teeth but not for drinking. Bottled water is inexpensive and widely available at every convenience store.

  • While Mandarin is the primary language, many people in Taipei speak some English, especially in hotels and restaurants. Google Translate works well for quick communication, and locals are friendly and patient with travelers.
